ABOUT US

ABOUT US

The Sanskrit root word of Yoga, “yuj” (which means “unity” or “yoke”), indicates that the ultimate purpose of yoga is to unite ourselves with our highest nature and universal consciousness.

At Yoga Seeds, we love being out close to nature and specialise in holding classes, workshops, events & retreats for all-levels. We embrace the nurturing conditions that mother nature offers to help us reconnect with ourselves, hence we are always on the go to find new hideaway destinations to unroll our mats.

From restorative & meditative quiet retreats, to fun outdoor events and team building workshops, we aim to create strength, awareness and harmony in both the mind and body. We hold firm beliefs in building strong fundamentals while aiming to make yoga practice fun and relevant to our daily lives.

Also, as big fans of Karma Yoga, we love being involved in charity or cause-worthy initiatives to give back to the community & the underprivileged as much as we can.

Join us on this exploratory yogic journey to maintain a healthy, balanced life with a calm, peaceful mind and an open heart, the fun way!

MEET OUR DEDICATED AND PASSIONATE INSTRUCTORS

WENDY CHAN / Director, Principal Yoga Instructor

Wendy’s background and interest in eastern and western philosophy led her to explore and study the workings of the universe’s mind, body and subtle energies. This exploration led her to realise her true calling — to teach and share yoga and meditation. With diverse training in yoga and meditation in different traditions, Wendy seeks a balanced and complete view of one’s practice and spiritual development.

Founder and director of Yoga Seeds, Wendy leads the Yoga Seeds Shala’s teaching team and the Yoga Seeds Teacher Training Program faculty. She curates and designs yoga curricula, programs and activities for Yoga Seeds classes, retreats, training and workshops in locations all over Asia to spread the seeds of yoga to the corporates as well as the public.

As an ambassador for Yoga Gives Back, she organises regular fundraisers and classes for charity. She is deeply committed to giving back to the community through her self-funded non-profit organisation, Yoga Circle.

She teaches anywhere she can unroll her mat, and her style of yoga is a unique blend of Classical, Vinyasa and Yin Yoga, emphasising the breath in both movement and stillness.

JOANNE ANG / Yoga Instructor, Retreat Leader

Joanne started her yoga practice as a form of workout to boost her immune system as she was leading a relatively sedentary lifestyle. Having dance as her co-curricular activity throughout her school days and being a biology teacher in her early career, she naturally grew attracted to yoga.

She saw a significant improvement in her health and state of mind through consistent practice, and yoga became more than just a workout – it became part of her lifestyle. With a healthier body, mind and soul, she has all the energy she needs to do the things she loves – travel, teach, cook, and do yoga!

When exposed to more profound wisdom about yoga, she was inspired to deepen her practice and took up her first 200-hr yoga teacher training. She has since enjoyed teaching and sharing yoga’s benefits tremendously. As a student, she believes strongly in enjoying her practice on the mat, which translates into her encouraging demeanour in her classes.

GWEN TEO / Yoga Instructor, Retreat Leader

Gwen always has an active lifestyle, even when juggling motherhood and full-time work and coping with the challenges of the modern corporate world. Upon sustaining injuries from her regular running, she realised she needed a more balanced approach to health and fitness. Her first yoga experience convinced her that yoga was the thing she needed to achieve that balance.

After more than ten years of practising yoga on and off to complement her running and fitness regime, she decided to take on yoga teacher training to deepen her understanding and share yoga with the people around her. She has seen first-hand how proper conditioning through yoga can help people with common joint pains, and she hopes to do the same through teaching yoga.

Gwen teaches Hatha & Yoga Therapy classes, emphasising building strength and flexibility and cultivating calmness in body and mind, both on and off the mat.

Jasmine wants to motivate people to connect to their inner self and explore their mental and physical capabilities through consistent yoga practice. She also looks forward to helping students cope with their lifestyles at work or home through the power of pranayama, meditation and asanas practice.

MELODY TAN / Yoga Instructor

Melody’s yoga journey started ten years ago when she was invited by her friend to try out hatha yoga at the community centre near her house. Realising Yoga includes various types of pranayama and meditation to work also on the well-being of the mind, she started to engage in yoga as a way of complementing her other fitness regimes. During times of grief and sadness, she tried simple pranayama and meditation and experienced its benefits both mentally and spiritually. Her yoga practice taught her to embrace imperfection when it comes to challenging postures, reminding her to be patient and to never give up.

Melody took a 200hr yoga teacher training in 2015 to share yoga with people around her. She often practices karma yoga by being involved in charity activities. Yoga isn’t about flexibility and looking cool, it’s about being yourself on your mat, connecting your breathing, letting go of ego, focusing on your practice and getting closer to experiencing your inner self. Melody believes that learning and practicing yoga is a lifelong journey.

KERIN / Yoga Instructor

Kerin has always loved yoga for the calming effect it has on her after each practice. Steady yoga practice in recent years has improved Kerin’s strength and flexibility significantly. This piqued her curiosity to learn more about the philosophy and theory behind this ancient science, motivating her to take up the yoga teacher training course with Yoga Seeds.

This opened up a whole new world and now, to her, yoga is not just a physical exercise, but also an attitude and mindset which helps her to achieve strength, flexibility and balance in life, all through consistent practice.

Trained in the styles of Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin and Adaptive Chair yoga, she teaches in a variety of ways to bring yoga to her students. Kerin believes that yoga is for everyone and will like to share and teach yoga in line with the abilities and needs of the individual.
